Sherlock Holmes deduced which way the bicycle went by looking into the wheel tracks in PRIO. The author presents Holmes’s deduction is mathematically possible; The tracks of front or rear wheels can be distinguished as the rear wheel follows the front wheel with a minimum distance, and the direction can be fixed as the distance of ground points are the same for both wheels. He also suggests Holmes’s mathematical knowledge should be studied more.
正典｢プライオリ学校｣文中で、ホームズは湿地帯に付いた自転車の轍の深さから進行方向を推理。筆者は実際に数学の手法を用いて、自転車の後輪は前輪に最短距離で追随するとすれば、前後輪の区別がつく。さらに進行方向は、両輪間の距離が一定だという事実から類推できる、と論証する。

The author groups the criminals in the Canon into two categories, the real villain and the ordinary people, and how Sherlock Holmes treated them.
ホームズ譚に登場する犯人たちの性格について。根っからの悪党と、普通の人間らしい心を持つ人々の二つに分類されると指摘。対するホームズは、冷たい推理機械という訳ではなく、犯人に対して怒り、また同情することもある暖かい人間らしさを備えた人間である、と結論する。

Hoshida, Mamoru “Is Sherlock Holmes Left-Handed?”	星田守「ホームズは左利きか？」	WH No.2 (1979),32-33p
The needle marks in the left arm suggests Sherlock Holmes was right-handed in SIGN, which is the only part we can know his dominant hand in the Canon. The author tries to find out the dominant hand of Sherlock Holmes by the hand he holds a pipe in illustrations.
｢四つの署名｣や、舞台、映画、挿絵などからホームズの利き手を推理する。｢四つの署名｣以外では、ホームズの利き手の描写が無いことと、舞台や映画で俳優がパイプを持つ手は、統一されていないことを指摘。更に挿絵では逆刷りの物があるので、左利きとは断言出来ないと結論。

Onishi, Asami “Translations of “Letters from 221A Baker Street”	大西朝海「翻訳事始」	WH No.2 (1979),38-48p
The author compares the translation of the parody that appeared in the magazine with his own translation, and comments on some points he feels the blush-up are required in the professional translation, although he admits it is far better than his own work.
